What is a PAC code? PAC stands for a Porting Authorisation Code, which is what you need if you wish to keep your current mobile number when changing network providers.
If you are looking to switch network providers (e.g. move from someone like 02 to Orange), and wish to retain your existing mobile number, you will need to phone your current service provider and request a PAC code. Your existing mobile provider will not charge you to obtain a PAC code.
To retain a PAC code, the process is as follows:
- Phone your existing service provider and request a PAC code. Do not cancel your existing contract with them or you may encounter difficulties porting your number. Use our tool above to find your service providers contact details, or see the list below.
- Usually your network provider will be able to provide you with a PAC code over the phone, or some operators such as Orange will provide you with it in writing. Once you receive your PAC code it is valid for 30 days only.
- Select a new service provider. To find the best deals available visit some of the top service providers latest offers:
- When you order your new mobile package online, input your PAC code when requested.
- 1.The time taken to transfer your number from your old provider to your new provider usually takes an average of 5-10 working days, but varies by provider. Your new service provider will provide you with a temporary number until the switch has taken place.
Please Note: If you are still under contract to your old company, you may be liable for payments under that contract, so check when your contract terminates before switching, as you may have to pay to get out of your old contract.
